In this MMT Chat, I speak with Darryl Gratrix of Molded Precision Components (MPC) about his passion for promoting manufacturing careers and skilled trades. With a background in geography before transitioning to moldmaking, he emphasizes the importance of training the next generation of skilled workers.

Darryl actively engages with the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program and has successfully leveraged LinkedIn to expand his professional network in moldmaking. His strategy includes consistent posting and connecting with industry professionals to raise awareness about career opportunities in manufacturing.

The conversation highlights the critical role of guidance counselors in promoting skilled trades. After organizing facility tours, Darryl witnessed increased interest from education professionals who then arranged events to showcase manufacturing careers to students.

Looking ahead, Darryl is excited to work within his new position on the Canadian Association of Mouldmakers board to further advocate for the industry.

His takeaways include contacting local school boards, sharing work experiences on social media and engaging stakeholders to promote manufacturing careers.
